RoAmi ROAST ANALYSER/SPECTROPHOTOMETER

RoAmi

What is RoAmi?

RoAmi is a spectrophotometer that reads the roast degree of whole or ground coffee. It is an ideal tool for coffee roasters to ensure the coffee is being roasted consistently for their customers. It is accurate to 0.1%.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

A near infrared beam of light from the handheld spectrophotometer beams onto coffee sample. A roast that is lighter in colour will reflect more light than a darker roast sample. The amount of light that is reflected back is converted into a percentage by the RoAmi interface software. The higher the number, the lighter the roast (more light reflected). This percentage corresponds with a description of the roast degree (see below table).

The SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) adopt this scale to analyse the roast degree. It is often referred to as the Agtron result.
